The Basic
- Processor: The Intel Core 2 Duo T6400 processor has a 2.0 GHz processor speed, fast 800 MHz front-side bus (FSB), and 2 MB L2 cache. (An L2, or secondary, cache temporarily stores data; and a larger L2 cache can help speed up your system’s performance. The FSB carries data between the CPU and RAM, and a faster front-side bus will deliver better overall performance.)With two computational execution cores in a single processor, it provides greater system response when running multi-threaded applications simultaneously with no significant increase in power consumption. It’s optimized for multitasking and is ready to support the Microsoft Windows Vista operating system. It can simultaneously run multiple demanding applications–such as graphics-intensive games or serious number-crunching business productivity applications–while downloading music or running virus-scanning security programs in the background. Some of the advanced Intel innovations of the Core 2 Duo processor include:
- Smart Memory Access: Improves system performance by hiding memory latency, thus optimizing the use of available computer data bandwidth to provide data to the processor when and where it is needed.
- Advanced Digital Media Boost: Effectively doubles the execution speed for instructions used widely in multimedia and graphics applications.
- Dynamic Power Coordination: Coordinates Enhanced Intel SpeedStep Technology and idle power-management state (C-states) transitions independently per core to help save power.
- Deeper Sleep with Dynamic Cache Sizing: Saves power by flushing cache data to system memory during periods of inactivity to lower CPU voltage.
- Hard Drive: The generous 250 GB Serial ATA hard drive (5400 RPM) provides more than enough capacity for storing a large audio and video library, as well as extra space required for video editing. This SATA hard drive also quickens the pace with a higher speed transfer of data–akin to Firewire and USB 2.0.
- Memory: The 4 GB of installed RAM (PC2-5300, 2 x 2 GB) maximizes the capacity for this notebook,. It also offers a fast 667 MHz speed.
- DVD/CD Drive: The dual-layer DVD drive is compatible with a wide range of formats, including both DVD+RW and DVD-RW discs, CD-RW discs, and dual-layer (DL) DVD+/-R discs, which can hold up to 8.5 GB of data–great for backing up your MP3 collection or your most important documents. It features the following speeds: 4x for DVD+R DL, 4x for DVD-R DL, 8x for both single layer DVD±R, 8x for single layer DVD+RW, 6x for single layer DVD-RW, 5x for DVD-RAM, and 24x/16x for CD-R/RW. It reads DVD-ROM discs at 8x and CD-ROMs at 24x.
- Keyboard & Mouse: This notebook has a 105-key keyboard (12 function, four cursor, two Microsoft Windows keys; independent US dollar and Euro sign keys ), inverted T cursor layout, standard numeric keypad, hotkey controls, 2.5mm minimum key travel, and international language support. The touchpad has multi-gesture technology, including circular-motion scrolling and pinch-action zoom.
Screen, Video & Audio The wide-aspect 15.6-inch Acer CineCrystal Full HD display provides a true cinematic view with 16:9 aspect ratio for HDTV and the latest Blu-ray Disc format. The 1366 x 768 resolution captivates with its precision and ensures flawless, pixel-for-pixel reproductions of entertainment created in the 720p high-def format. An 8 ms high-def response time diminishes ghosting in games with finely rendered, complex graphics. Acer GridVista software simultaneously shows up to eight windows on dual displays and automatically resizes open application windows to fit the screen for fantastic multitasking. Video is powered by the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X4500MHD, which uses shared video memory (up to 1759 MB allocated from the system memory) and provides Windows Vista Aero interface support and enhanced 3D graphics performance–delivering over 2x scores on 3DMark 06. Intel Clear Video Technology provides outstanding video playback with sharper image quality, increased clarity, and customizable color controls. It also enables enhanced visual quality of interlaced content on progressive displays. This notebook also includes an integrated audio card with Microsoft DirectSound compatibility and two Acer 3DSonic stereo speakers. Networking, Connectivity & Expansion Be ready for the next platform in wireless connectivity with the integrated quad-mode Wi-Fi chip. Based on the draft 802.11n Wi-Fi specification, it offers up to five times the performance and twice the wireless range as existing 802.11g wireless. It’s also backward compatible with 802.11b/g networks (commonly found in home routers and wi-fi hotspots) as well as 802.11a networks (which has a higher throughput, but more limited range–great for closed office environments). It also includes a next-generation ExpressCard 54/34 card slot (replacing the PCMCIA slot), which lets you take advantage of thinner, faster, and lighter expansion cards for even more advanced wireless, networking, storage, and security features. It comes with the following external connectors:
- 3 USB 2.0 ports for connecting a wide range of peripherals–from digital cameras to MP3 players
- 1 ExpressCard/54 slot (compatible with ExpressCard/34 media)
- Analog video output: 1 VGA

I would reinstall the version of windows that you are using. Several options are available. Some laptops come with Restore Cd's. Some with a recovery partition. Some with just the Operating System disk. I would back up all your files, then restore it to the way it came out of the box. This is the easiest way to address all the problems you are having. Most likely you are running Vista Home Premium there should be a disc that you can put in your computer and boot off of to bring you to the installation options. I would recommend a fresh install to ensure all your old data is erased and your computer is at its factory defaults. Just like out of the box.
Don't listen to the people who say its Crap or send it back. Most of the time if its a software problem its not covered under the warranty. These people need to learn what they are talking about. By you fixing it yourself, you learn how to fix problems and learn not to be afraid of repairing your own computer. I was a The Easy Mobile Tech for Staples and the price for me to fix it would be at the very least $175. You can easily do this yourself for free. Good luck. Email me if any other questions. ———–Steven
So, g_insane here says that acer is crap. Thats his own opinion. Ive been in many corporate companies that uses Acers for there workstations and the sales people use the laptops for their on the road travels. No matter what computer you have something will go wrong. Its like a car. You have to maintain it and treat it well and it will usually last a while. Peoples reviews arnt always the best way to say a product is crap. Many people who write reviews dont have anything nice to say mainly because not many people will write about their good experiences. They rather write reviews on a product that failed. Keep that in mind.
I know many stores that wont take the laptop back after 2 weeks. Ive worked for them. Hopefully they let you return it if you are in their policy range Good luck in what ever you decide. However software issues are not under warrenty in many cases by the manufacturer.
does the band change or is it there all the time. i mean, does it move? I had a similar problem where i had these dark bands across my computer monitor. the bands changed to whatever was on the screen. it ended up being my graphics card. hope you get it fixed.
dude just turn on the infarared on your cell phone and place if infront of the infarared on your pc and wal la it should work now
Recently bought one for my grandson, which I administer for him. Very pleased with it and the 5100 series I got for my grand daughter. I have had the 9410 unit for my use since the middle of April. I loaded a copy of Office 2000 that I have and it works fine. Copied all my old spreadsheets and documents without a hitch. Haven't tried Powerpoint, but have no reason to think it would be different from everything else. Circuit City has some of the 5610's on sale right now.
I use Acer for 3 years now. An Aspire One and a bigger Notebook and they run perfectly and I love them. So I wouldn’t be so judgemental…
this laptop is fine for me, it’s never ever crashed
Well, heres a news flash for you Acer condescending son of bitches: you aint ever the best. Not 10 years ago and definitely not now or the foreseeable future. In fact, your product sucks so much you might as well stop making computers and start making vacuum machines. Or liposuction apparatus. Whatever.

If that didn't work get two dvd's and burn the os from your hidden partition to the dvd's. This website shows you how to do it…http://en.kioskea.net/faq/sujet-2040-acer-pc-restore-to-factory-settings.
there lineup suggestions 4 u to follow, I mean to transfer the data from the original one to the Acer,
1. Burn the data to the CD/ DVD disc , and then copy the data to the Acer.
2. Copy the data 2 the removable disk, and then copy to the Acer notebook.
Also I think it's enough for the internet surfering…..
