Acer Aspire 5920- “gaming to Common”
Category: Acer Notebook | Sep 19, 2009 |

While Dell is busy boxing its Inspiron range with strictly positioned features Acer is adding new flavors to spice up Aspire range of notebook. Acer Aspire 5920 is one such notebook lacing gaming advantage to a desktop replacement. The model falls under the new Aspire line called “Gemstone”.
The structure this time is innovative. The smooth dark contour with a car boot like handle to open the lid makes the design unique. This opens up to a groovy yellowish gray inside with combed blue LEDs and a slanted space bar. Serving the term Crystalbrite, the screen is very bright indeed but it fails to cater quality and richness by a poor contrast.
So if you are ready to sacrifice black and contrast to get glossy vivid colors, choice is yours. But as a warning it won’t be as pleasant as matte screen.
Unlike Dell’s Inspiron 1520 and 1525, Acer Aspire 5920 comes with a built in subwoofer. And with Realtek sound driver attached you get loads of options and settings to play around with. You might want to keep volume displayed on the screen as the volume dial present on the laptop is quit blank. Although the keyboard is a bit weird looking it has got dedicated media controls.
The selection of ports offered by the machine is well off. Most ports are comfortable to use when placed in the side but some ports like LAN and video ports should have been employed on the back. Adhering notebook’s entertainment agenda Acer has united a HD DVD drive with a HDMI port as standard.
Another interesting feature to talk about is the “e” button. The “e” here stands for “empowering technology”. What it does is, it opens a pretty looking control panel tooled with Acer utilities. It serves as a beginners guide to laptop management. A unique pro of the 5920 is the Nvidia 8600m GT video card, which is one of the fastest 8xxx GPU .
In addition, it comes in a MXM II slot with easy access. Even after featuring a low T5250, 5920 proves its gaming advantage, meaning you don’t have to spend money on a higher CPU for that purpose alone.
A big disadvantage of this notebook is that it can’t keep its cool. Comprising so many ports confines the air vent to the lower left side, and this is where the lid design goes wrong by limiting the space allocated for the back vent profile. This results in relatively warmer than appreciated inner temperatures.
Even after the above fall-backs Aspire 5920 best bang for the buck. And with the gaming advantage it will attract many young buyers.

Recently bought one for my grandson, which I administer for him. Very pleased with it and the 5100 series I got for my grand daughter. I have had the 9410 unit for my use since the middle of April. I loaded a copy of Office 2000 that I have and it works fine. Copied all my old spreadsheets and documents without a hitch. Haven't tried Powerpoint, but have no reason to think it would be different from everything else. Circuit City has some of the 5610's on sale right now.
im using aspire for 4 years now…everything still works goood except for the speakers that are both dead
does the band change or is it there all the time. i mean, does it move? I had a similar problem where i had these dark bands across my computer monitor. the bands changed to whatever was on the screen. it ended up being my graphics card. hope you get it fixed.
why do all acer laptops look alike
lol? idiot…..? stupid
can you use an acer notebook for gaming
It sounds like your hard drive has died…. Take it to a local IT person and have them replace the hard drive….
What kind of harddrive does it have? My sister’s computer is failing and we might have to buy a new hardrive.
I would reinstall the version of windows that you are using. Several options are available. Some laptops come with Restore Cd's. Some with a recovery partition. Some with just the Operating System disk. I would back up all your files, then restore it to the way it came out of the box. This is the easiest way to address all the problems you are having. Most likely you are running Vista Home Premium there should be a disc that you can put in your computer and boot off of to bring you to the installation options. I would recommend a fresh install to ensure all your old data is erased and your computer is at its factory defaults. Just like out of the box.
Don't listen to the people who say its Crap or send it back. Most of the time if its a software problem its not covered under the warranty. These people need to learn what they are talking about. By you fixing it yourself, you learn how to fix problems and learn not to be afraid of repairing your own computer. I was a The Easy Mobile Tech for Staples and the price for me to fix it would be at the very least $175. You can easily do this yourself for free. Good luck. Email me if any other questions. ———–Steven
So, g_insane here says that acer is crap. Thats his own opinion. Ive been in many corporate companies that uses Acers for there workstations and the sales people use the laptops for their on the road travels. No matter what computer you have something will go wrong. Its like a car. You have to maintain it and treat it well and it will usually last a while. Peoples reviews arnt always the best way to say a product is crap. Many people who write reviews dont have anything nice to say mainly because not many people will write about their good experiences. They rather write reviews on a product that failed. Keep that in mind.
I know many stores that wont take the laptop back after 2 weeks. Ive worked for them. Hopefully they let you return it if you are in their policy range Good luck in what ever you decide. However software issues are not under warrenty in many cases by the manufacturer.

My Acer Aspire 9410 had WinXP Media Center Edition(Professional Edition with Media Center) preinstalled instead of that buggy Vista bullshit.
So I got luck.
The Acer Aspire One is a netbook and isn't designed for speed it is designed for portability and computing on the go
The reason the computer is slow is that the processor is only a 1.6Ghz celeron and basic setup
If it is running windows xp then run a disk defragment (start, programs, accessories, system tools)
The amount of RAM may not be the issue it may just need a defrag or remove some unused programs to check the amount of RAM used press ctrl (bottom left hand corner of keyboard) alt (next to spacebar) and del (top right hand corner on your keyboard) together ctrl+alt+del then go to start task manager and then choose performance tab this will show how much is in use if it is nearly all or more RAM than the system has then upgrade otherwise do what else i suggested

The Aspire 9920 because of its 20.1" display and as of now, it has the best video card Acer can offer – GeForce 8600 GT. If you don't want the huge display, you can check out Aspire 5920G. I think it has a 15.4".
